What Is Honey?

Honey is one of nature’s miraculous gifts. It is an edible liquid gold that is packed with sweetness and is made by bees. For those of us who love sweetness, honey is one of the sweetest yet most nutritional products you can indulge yourself in.

What Is the Most Common Honey Type?

As far as honey and bees are concerned, the most common honey we see around us is raw honey.

Raw or pure honey is honey that comes directly from the beehive and has not undergone pasteurization through heating. This raw/pure honey is then made available in both unrefined and refined options.

But now, there is honey that is made from the nectar of flowers, giving it more beneficial ingredients like vitamins, flavonoids, phenolics, etc. The bees do most of the work by pollinating the flowers and collecting nectar. When this nectar is collected, an enzyme in their mouth gland blends it and then transfers it to other bees in the hive.

Raw honey is by far the most common and popularly used honey in the world, but when it comes to flavor and color, the most popular types of honey are:

  • Clover honey
  • Wildflower honey
  • Acacia honey
  • Alfalfa honey
  • Buckwheat honey
  • Creamed honey
  • Manuka honey
  • Eucalyptus honey
  • Orange blossom honey
  • Baker’s special honey
  • Sage honey
  • Avocado honey
  • Lavender honey

How to Freeze Honey

I regret to inform you that there are no steps or methods as to how to freeze honey.

Why? You might be wondering.

The truth is, honey will not freeze due to its low moisture content. Another thing is that honey will not freeze even if it is placed in the freezer for an extended period of time and at a high temperature. It may look solid and frozen to you, but when you tilt the container, the honey flows slowly. That’s a bummer!

But you can still store your honey in the freezer (it will not freeze) or in a glass or plastic container and store it in a cool place.

How Long Does Honey Last?

You cannot freeze honey, but it can be stored for about 12 months in the cupboard or freezer.

Honey can stay on your shelf or in your freezer for an extended period without going bad or changing in taste. It has a one-year shelf life if sealed and stored properly in a container and kept away from light and moisture. If water comes in contact with the honey, it affects it and makes it go sour.

Bear in mind that honey crystallizes when stored for a long time.

What Is Honey Crystallization?

Honey crystallization is visible to anyone. Crystallization happens when the water content in the honey splits up from its sugar content, thereby forming small crystals. When you see your honey forming crystals, fret not; it is completely normal for honey to crystallize after a long time.

Crystallized honey is safe and can still be consumed, and some people even believe it to be more tasty and flavorful.

How Can You Tell If Honey Is Bad

If your honey begins to form visible molds or emits a fermented odor, it is time to discard it and replace it.

Conclusion

So, can honey freeze? honestly, no; you cannot freeze honey, but rest assured that it does not go bad, spoil, or expire and can be stored for 12 months.
