Ingredients for Making Waina da Kuli

4 cups of short-grain white rice
Vegetable oil
Baking powder
Kuli kuli (groundnut cake)
Dried chilli
Warm water

How to Prepare the Kuli for the Waina

STEP 1: Get the mortar and pestle and clean it. Add the Kuli Kuli, dried chilli, seasonings, and salt to taste, and pound until it turns coarse or granular.

STEP 2: Pack the pounded mixture and pour it onto a plate. Our kuli kuli powdered is done.

Procedure for Making Waina da Kuli

STEP 1: Soak the white rice in a bowl for 6 hours. If you intend to eat the meal in the morning, you can soak the rice overnight.

STEP 2: Fetch half a cup of the soaked white rice and cook for 15-20 minutes. You could use unsoaked white rice, and all will serve the purpose.

STEP 3: When cooked, wash the remaining soaked rice and mix it with the cooked one. Cut the onions and add them to the mixture. Mix very well.

STEP 4: Get the blender and blend the mixture until it turns into a paste, but not too thick.

STEP 5: Get the warm water, pour the yeast, baking powder, and sugar, and stir until it dissolves in the water.

STEP 6: Now turn it inside the mixture in STEP 4 and mix thoroughly.

STEP 7: Cover with nylon or a clean towel. Leave it for an hour until it rises.

STEP 8: It’s now time to begin to fry, but first, pour vegetable oil into a small container with a small spoon

STEP 9: Wash or clean the masa or waina pan and put it over medium heat. Allow to heat for 2 to 3 minutes.

STEP 10: Now pour one spoon each in every hole in the masa pan.

STEP 11: Add sliced onions to the paste and mix it very well. Now begin to pour the paste into each hole. Allow it to cook for 3 minutes until it turns golden brown.

STEP 12: Flip over the other side of the waina and allow it to cook for 2 minutes until it turns golden brown too.

STEP 13: Pack the waina and put it in a warmer.

STEP 14: Repeat the same process until all the paste is exhausted, or at least until the required quantity of Waina you need has been met. Our waina is done.

How to Serve Waina da Kuli

Put the waina on a plate and pour the kuli kuli powder (garin kuli) on top. Alternatively, you could be sprinkling the kuli kuli powder as you add the waina to the plate. You could also eat it together with sliced cabbage and cucumber.

Enjoy it with a cool drink.
