How to Make Spaghetti and Yam Jollof (Yadda Ake Taliya da Doya)

Taliya da Doya is called Spaghetti and Yam Jollof in English. It is basically made from spaghetti (taliya) and yam (doya). In this article, I will be teaching you how to make Taliya Da Doya (yadda ake Taliya da Doya).

Spaghetti is a kind of meal that can be made together with other types of foods such as beans (Taliya da Wake), rice (Taliya da Shinkafa), sweet potato (Taliya da Dankali), moi moi (Taliya da Alale), yam (Taliya da Doya), and many other combinations.

How to Make Spaghetti and Yam Jollof (Yadda Ake Taliya da Doya)


Cooking pot
Wooden spoon


1 packet of spaghetti (taliya)
A medium-sized yam
Seasoning cubes
Vegetable oil or palm oil
Boiled meat or fish
Tomato, onions, and pepper (grated or blended)

Procedure for Preparing Spaghetti and Yam Jollof

STEP 1: Peel the yam, wash it, and cut it into small pieces. Keep it aside.

STEP 2: Over medium heat, put the clean pot and add the vegetable oil or palm oil. Add onions to it and allow to fry for 3 minutes.

STEP 3: Add the grated tomatoes, onions, and pepper to the cooking pot and fry for 15 minutes.

STEP 4: Now add 2 cups of water and the boiled meat or fish to the pot and allow it to come to a boil.

STEP 5: Add the spices, salt, and seasoning cubes to taste.

STEP 6: Then add spaghetti to the cooking pot. Stir well and allow to cook for 3 minutes.

STEP 7: Add the cut or sliced yam to the cooking pot and allow it to cook for 15 minutes.

STEP 8: Your Taliya da Doya is ready.

How to Serve

Taliya da Doya is served on plates. It tastes better when served hot. Get a chilled water or beverage of your choice to take the meal with it.

Occasions to Serve Best

It is usually served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

How to Store

You can store it in a warmer and can last for 24 hours. You could store it for a longer time if stored in a freezer or refrigerator. However, you will need to warm it with a cooker or microwave before you eat it.

Health Benefits of Taliya da Doya

This delicacy is rich in minerals, such as manganese and potassium. They are also important for weight loss as well as reducing fasting blood sugar levels.

It also contains fibre which aids digestion, protein, and antioxidants.
